Died from gunshot wounds on East Lake Road, Richfield Springs near Schuyler Lake, Otsego County. Trooper Semrov followed a subject down the road to his cottage and requested a drivers license and registration. The subject entered his house under the pretense of procuring those items. The subject came out of his residence shooting, and shot Trooper Semrov in the face and neck five times with a .22 cal rifle. He then struggled with the Trooper Semrov and took his .38 caliber service revolver, shooting him a sixth time. The subject on the advise of his father called the New York State Police and admitted his guilt. He then washed off the service revolver and placed it on the hood of the troop car, surrendering without incident to the arriving troopers.

Trooper Dodge investigated a property line dispute between two neighbors who owned adjoining lakefront cottages on the shores of Seneca Lake. He returned to the residence of one subject after a second complained concerning the removal of a property line stake and was invited into the cottage. The subject then pointed a 12 gauge shotgun at Trooper Dodge who attempted to knock it out of his hand, but missed and was immediately shot. Trooper Dodge returned fire with six rounds and shot the assailant three times in the legs and chest. The assailant then stumbled to the front porch and fired one shot at random before collapsing.

Trooper Dillon returned fire with two rounds into the car. The subjects left the scene and crashed through a barricaded exit gate at Exit 34. Dillon returned to his car before he collapsed. It is believed that it was unknown to Trooper Dillon that the subjects had just robbed a Dewitt jewelry store and taken $132,000 in cash and merchandise. The two vehicle occupants were caught within 1 1/2 hours. A total of five NYC suspects were arrested.

Georgeades, shot him twice in the thigh after being told to surrender by McDonagh. Georgeades then went around the troop car and shot him once in the forehead with a .22 cal. rifle, killing Trooper McDonagh instantly. Georgeades then took Trooper McDonagh's service revolver and ammo. He then made a radio transmission on the troop car radio that he had shot a trooper and would not be taken alive.
