
Died from injuries suffered in an auto
accident on September 12, 1960 on the North Sea Road at Route 39 in the Town
of Southhampton, Suffolk County, after being recalled to duty due to hurricane
Donna.
Died in an auto accident at Felt Mills,
Jefferson County, from internal injuries after his troop car and a New York
Central RR train collided.
Died on the New York State Thruway in the
Village of Tarrytown, Westchester County, while pursuing an unidentified auto.
Trooper Embarrato's vehicle crashed through a guard rail and plunged down an
embankment, landed on its roof and continued end over end to finally rest on
its roof. The force of the impact tore his seatbelt from the vehicle and threw
him 10 feet from the car with the seatbelt still attached to his body.
Died of internal injuries suffered in an
auto accident on Interstate 90 in the Town of Guilderland, Albany County, when
his troop car left the passing lane, skidded down an embankment and rolled over,
landing on its left side and ejecting him.
Died on Route 22 and Old Kensico Dam Road,
in the Town of North Castle, Westchester County, of head injuries when his motorcycle
approached a sharp curve, slid on and ran off of the wet pavement, knocking
down concrete guideposts.
Died in an auto accident on Route 15 in
the Town of Bath, Steuben County, when a tractor trailer turning into the driveway
of a diner turned into his path and struck his troop car. The troop car was
totally demolished.
Died from injuries in an auto accident
in the City of Utica at Sunset and Utica Arterial when his troop car collided
with a truck coming through the intersection. The driver of the truck was arrested
for DWI.
Died from internal injuries suffered on
October 18, 1967 when he lost control of his troop car and struck a tree on
Route 192-A in the Town of Harristown, Franklin County, while pursuing an escapee
from a mental institution in Ohio who had failed to pay for gas ($4.00) at a
service station, and had stolen a 1961 Corvair two weeks before in Ohio.
Died from three bullet wounds to the head,
from a .270 caliber rifle left in a vehicle stolen from Grifiss AFB, Rome, NY,
by escapees from the Marcy State Hospital in Utica, NY. The incident happened
on White Road in the Town of Parish, Oswego County. Trooper Doyle was pursuing
the vehicle when the subjects opened fire shattering the front and back windows
of the troop car, he radioed a "signal 30" distress call before he collapsed.
One suspect (Lillis) shot and killed the other (Bailey) and then later surrendered
because the other wanted to shoot a man and hold his wife and eight children
hostage in the house across the road from their hideout. The Bailey suspect
had been apprehended as a juvenile after escaping from a New York reform school
in 1947, stealing a car and firing 21 rounds into a pursuing New York State
Police car.
