Trooper Robert A. Moore

July 29, 1941

Died in a motorcycle accident on Route 5 in the Town of Dewitt, Onondaga County, when his motorcycle struck a car which was stopped in traffic waiting to make a left turn.



Corporal Earl R. Wilkinson

May 24, 1942

Died while serving in the military during W.W.II near Houlton, Maine, when the government airplane in which he was a passenger, crashed into a swamp.



Trooper Richard L. Hedges

July 11, 1942

Died on Route 17 in the Town of Chemung, Chemung County, in a motorcycle accident. While he pursued a speeding vehicle a truck that he was passing turned sharply in front of him, striking his motorcycle, and knocking him to the highway.



Trooper Peter J. Formosa

January 13, 1943

Died in a military auto accident at Hempstead, NY. Trooper Formose was assigned to the US Army, 826th Guard Squadron, Mitchell Field, Long Island, NY.



Trooper Milton (WM.C.) Ratner

July 11, 1943

Died during W.W.II over Sicily as a crew member of a bomber of the US Air Corps attached to the North African theatre. He received the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.



Trooper James R. Gohery

December 29, 1943

Died in a motorcycle accident on Bedell Street in the Village of Freeport, Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, when he was thrown from his motorcycle which landed on top of him while he was pursuing a fleeing vehicle.



Trooper Bryant F. Stickles

September 11, 1944

Died during W.W.II action on Saipan Island. He was a member of the 19th Fighter Squadron, 318th Fighter Group, 2nd Marine Division of the USMC. As a liaison Sergeant between two units, he was killed by enemy gunfire while trying to reach one unit from the other.



Trooper William O. Johnson

April 12, 1945

Died while serving the US Navy in the South Pacific. He was killed by a Kamikaze plane while fighting as a Gunner's Mate, 2nd class.



Trooper Charles E. Hoover

June 5, 1945

Died while serving the US Army. While making an aerial tour of northern Italy his plane crashed.



Trooper Kenneth B. Knapp

July 17, 1945

Died of a shotgun wound to the head at the Town of Colchester, Delaware County, after responding to a domestic complaint. Trooper Knapp accompanied an estranged wife to her residence to pick up some belongings when her husband objected. The wife left to get a court order and returned to retrieve items from the home of her sister-in-law next door. The sister-in-law went to her brothers residence and thought he had committed suicide when she seen him lying on the floor next to a shotgun. Trooper Knapp assisted her in forcing entrance to the residence and was immediately shot in the face with a 16 gauge shotgun.



Trooper Robert V. Conklin

July 4, 1948

Died in a motorcycle accident after being forced from the road by a car traveling in the same direction. While trying to pass a vehicle to overtake a speeder on Route 9W in the Town of Highland, Ulster County, Trooper Conklin was forced into the center mall and thrown from his motorcycle. He landed on the concrete highway and was struck and dragged by his still moving motorcycle.
